Day 7 - Sunshine!

Hoi An is alive! Sun is shining, streets are full of tourists, stalls are all open and doing business. The sad looks from yesterday are gone as the dollars and duong roll in.

Clothes and shoes on order have all been delayed by the typhoon. The businesses by the river still do not have power and the tailors lost power enough to put their production schedule behind. The river is still rising and will for another day so the locals say.

It is funny that just 24 hours after completely sodden and collapsed stalls lay about, they have pieced themselves together and are up and running. Dawn and I stood under an awning about 2 metres from a large spreading tree. This morning that trees roots point at the sky as it has toppled over. The before and after pictures prove we were there right in the thick of it!

We have bought tickets to see parts of the town such as temples and museums.

Later....

After wandering around town basically killing time, the moment approached to return to the tailors and cobblers (no one calls them that any more do they?) to pick up our booty. It was like Christmas eve where your parents could have taken you to the most exciting place in the world and you wouldn't have cared because later it was Christmas! I am not saying the temples etc weren't entertaining, but the attention was not fully on what they had to offer.

First it was to Tin Tin (Tailors) where my suits and coat was ready. Awesome! Suits were in suit bags, coat looked great. Then off to the shoes and DISASTER!. Remember Christmas day when you were absolutely, for sure, 100% certain you were going to get X and when you opened the present it was Y. Well that is what happened with the shoes. My shoes with the pointy toes and buckles were too tight and the form was not made for a low heel. Dawn's boots were non existent as they had not the form for her sized foot so they were making her up something else instead..my gecko shoes were not finished. The only good thing to come out of it were Dawn's new black heels...Very nice, though the strap is a little think she believes.

It was with miffed faces we went off to Dawn's other tailor. Her coat is exquisite! Shame the silver lining she ordered was somehow swapped for black :( and her other top was no where to be seen.

We have to go back in the morning for the shoes and Dawn is going out tonight to chase up her outstanding tailored stuff.
